Hello, and welcome to the second installment of the Music Sumo Podcast brought to you by Recast Records!

Music Sumo is an independent online music store dedicated to promoting and selling all independent artists’ music over the internet at www.musicsumo.com.

With a proposed start-up date of early 2006, Music Sumo will be aimed at assisting independent music artists, in further promoting their careers through distribution, marketing, and promotion on the internet. Artists will be able to sell their CD’s online, advertise upcoming shows and releases, and be featured on Music Sumo’s regular Podcast.

Some of the key features that we are currently incorporating into the Music Sumo webstore are:

• A website where your fans, and the general public, can come and buy your CD’s.
• A place for customers to leave reviews of your music.
• A concert calendar so you can let your fans know about your upcoming gigs.
• A bulletin board system that you can use to get questions answered about the music industry, as well as help others.
• A chat room where you can interact with your fans and other musicians in realtime.
• A way to further promote your band, music, and gigs through links and banners.
• And more!!!

Currently we are accepting CD submissions from all musical artists for the store and if you submit your CD now you will receive over 20% off the future sign-up fee! So sign-up

Hey everybody, this is “Downtown” Johnny Brown coming at you from the Music Sumo Studio.

As you may have noticed in the last Podcast, I was a little bit stuffed up in the head. That was because I was coming down with a cold and for some reason I was having unbelievable allergies for the day. Well, it has been about a week now, and I am almost fully over it, although I am still a little bit stuffy and sometimes my voice has been cracking and fading in and out. So, hopefully it will be able to make it all the way through this show.

Last week I featured an artist named Michelle Lewis from Boston, MA. Michelle is a wonderful singer/songwriter with a beautiful, angelic voice that can really stir your soul. If you liked what you heard on the last show you can visit Michelle’s website at www.michellelewismusic.com to read more about her and see if she is playing near you soon. I would highly recommend seeing her live as the true, beautiful robustness of her voice can really come through in a live setting. It really makes heads spin when they hear such a dynamic voice come out of such an angelic girl, and her guitar accompaniment is nothing to sneeze at as well. You will also be able to purchase Michelle’s CD entitled “This Time Around” at the Music Sumo webstore in early 2006 at www.musicsumo.com.

This week we are traveling all the way back across the United States to San Francisco to feature an up and coming band that started in 2003 and has gradually evolved into the powerhouse they are today while firmly establishing themselves in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene in the past year or so.

Anchored by the songs and rich harmonies of Josh Holliday and David Domingos, Farma

Josh Holliday’s signature voice blends with artful three part harmonies that never disappoint. David Domingos’ haunting Rhodes and lead guitar stylings converge to form the underlying mystique and unforgettable melodies that are the foundation of Farma’s unique sound. Add to that the powerful and poetic drums and percussion of the incomparable Mie Araki, and the stable grounding rhythms of Dominic Henri’s richly textured bass grooves and what you have is pure "Farma".

This unique blend of styles has graced the stages of such Bay Area venues as the 12 Galaxies, the Red Devil Lounge, the Last Day Saloon (in both SF and Santa Rosa), and the Starry Plough in Berkeley.

Well, lets take in a little bit of this eclectic rock band by the bay… Ladies and gentlemen, Music Sumo brings you Farma.
now! To find out more about Music Sumo and to take advantage of the over 20% in savings visit Music Sumo today at www.musicsumo.com!! mixes rock n’ roll, country, psychedelia, and pop into a unique, infectious sound. Actually, Farma bills themselves as "Psych-Americana". So, what exactly is "Psych-Americana"? Well, start with the ethereal trippiness of your favorite psychedelic band like Pink Floyd, Flaming Lips, Sgt. Pepper era Beatles and then cross that ever so delicately with the rock and roll roots of The Band, Elliot Smith, or Tom Petty. Add a sprig of country & western, and serve!

Farma – Mao/Marilyn

Farma – Jody Said

Let’s see… That first tune was titled Mao/Marilyn and actually has a pretty interesting story behind it and although it is a pretty quick story I feel that it is one that I should really let Josh Holliday tell as he probably wouldn’t screw it up as badly as I would. Hopefully, I will be able to get him and maybe the rest of the band into the studio one of these days soon to explain this song and some of their others. I would invite their bassist, Dominic, in right now since he is actually one of my roommates, and is in the other room, but he is sleeping right now. Oh well… As I said, maybe sometime soon in the future! Anyway, the second song I played was titled “Jody Said”. Both of these songs can be found on Farma’s self-titled EP, which was recorded in 2004 right after they acquired their new driving bass powerhouse, Dominic.

This next song is another tune off of their self-titled EP. It is a really good, long journey through the different forms of Farma that gives you a pretty good idea of their easy transitions to and from “rock n’ roll, country, psychedelia, and pop.” It is also pretty easy to distinguish each of the musician’s roles in the band as you can really make out each instrument well. So, sit back and enjoy the journey of the “Midnight Rider (or Hallucinations Outside of Fontana)”.

Farma - Midnight Rider (or Hallucinations Outside of Fontana)

Yes! I like the journey that song takes you on. Speaking of journeys, if you like what you are hearing from Farma you should visit their website at www.farmamusic.com. You can listen to the songs we are playing on this installment of the Music Sumo Podcast, see some pictures of the band, purchase some soft goods, and more.

Another thing that I would like to touch on real quick since that song reminded me of it is the drummer, Mie Araki. Mie is prevalent throughout that song and it isn’t because she is just loud. She really works her kit according to the mood and it is wonderful to watch her do it live. You can really feel the song flowing through her. It seems that she truly sees her role as another front member of the group, not just the driving beat behind the band. It is refreshing to hear a drummer that does this instead of feeling as if they need to just pound on the skins to make as much noise as possible. However, with this being said, Mie can really wail on the drums as well. It is a real treat to go to a Farma show and see a little tiny Japanese girl rock out with a super kick ass drum solo! It is a sight that I think everybody should try to experience as it is pretty awesome!

Unfortunately, you will not be able to see Farma perform live anytime soon as they are currently taking a break for a few months to relax, write, and record their next project. They have been working on several ideas in the past six months or so and have come up with some really good demos.

So, let’s check out a few of them with this first song called “Crucifixion”.

Farma – Crucifixion

There you go. A little Farma in your face!

Let’s keep the rockin’ going with the first three tracks off of their demo disk, the “Tecate Sessions”.

Farma – Century City

Farma – Plastic Moon

Farma – Seaside Hotel

There we go… A little more mellow mood as we wind-down and wrap this installment of the Music Sumo Podcast. Those three tracks were entitled Century City, Plastic Moon, and Seaside Hotel and are off of their non-released demo album called the “Tecate Sessions”. However, I am guessing that each of these demos will be refined, re-recorded, and released on Farma’s next, and probably first full-length album. To keep up to date with Farma and what they are doing you can visit their website at www.farmamusic.com.

Also, if you liked what you have heard during this show you will be able to purchase Farma’s self-titled EP at Music Sumo in early 2006 at www.musicsumo.com.

Thank you for listening everybody, this is “Downtown” Johnny Brown saying sianora to you all and reminding you to visit Music Sumo often at www.musicsumo.com as we will be adding new artists regularly.

Currently, the webstore is only open to all musical artists seeking a place to sell their CD’s. If you have a CD that you would like to get out to the general public just visit www.musicsumo.com today and take advantage of our over 20% in saving on our sign-up fees now!

Also, if you have any questions and/or comments regarding Music Sumo or any of our featured artists please feel free to e-mail us at podcast@musicsumo.com.

Thank you very much for listening everybody, and until next time, keep listening to good ‘ol independent music!
