Hello, this is “Downtown” Johnny Brown, and welcome to the third installment of the Music Sumo Podcast brought to you by Recast Records!
To all of you who don’t know by now, Music Sumo is an independent online music store dedicated to promoting and selling all independent artists’ music over the internet at www.musicsumo.com.
With a proposed start-up date of early 2006, Music Sumo will be aimed at assisting independent music artists, in further promoting their careers through distribution, marketing, and promotion on the internet. Artists will be able to sell their CD’s online, advertise upcoming shows and releases, and be featured on Music Sumo’s regular Podcast.
Some of the key features that we are currently incorporating into the Music Sumo webstore are: • A website where your fans, and the general public, can come and buy your CD’s. • A place for customers to leave reviews of your music. • A concert calendar so you can let your fans know about your upcoming gigs. • A bulletin board system that you can use to get questions answered about the music industry, as well as help others. • A chat room where you can interact with your fans and other musicians in realtime. • A way to further promote your band, music, and gigs through links and banners. • And more!!!
Currently we are accepting CD submissions from all musical artists for the store and if you submit your CD now you will receive over 20% off the future sign-up fee! So sign-up now! To find out more about Music Sumo and to take advantage of the over 20% in savings visit Music Sumo today at www.musicsumo.com!!
To all of you loyal listeners, who already know about us and were wondering what happened to the Music Sumo Podcast, don’t worry. We are back after a longer break than expected from a big move of our facilities from El Cerrito to Oakland, CA. Actually, everything is not quite set up the way I would like it yet, but I am close to getting it all perfected.
Due to the move everything is kind of jumbled up and I thought that it might be fun to convey the craziness of the feeling here with our first podcast of several various featured artists. All of these artists are new to Music Sumo and all of their CD’s will be available on Music Sumo’s website in the coming weeks. So, keep checking back on the Music Sumo website at www.musicsumo.com.
If you have been listening to our podcasts you might already know that the song that started off the podcast was San Francisco Bay Area’s, Farma with their song, “Crucifixion.” You can find out more about Farma by listening to Music Sumo Podcast #002, or by visiting their website at www.farmamusic.com.
Next up is a great singer/songwriter from Boston, MA. Michelle Lewis was the first artist to sign up with Music Sumo and was the first featured performer on our podcast #001. Michelle is currently playing around the UK and Europe until late March or early April. Check out her website at www.michellelewismusic.com to find out if she might be playing near you soon. It is always a treat to hear her play live and if you do get to see her I am sure she will play this song for you if you ask. This is Michelle Lewis with “Caroline.”
All the way from Australia that last song was by Mo Phillips. I first met Mo in Portland, OR in the 90’s while he was playing in the then popular Portland band, Spacebreath. Since then Mo has played in several different projects while writing his own stuff and releasing is own CD entitled “The Boat,” which will be available for purchase on Music Sumo’s website in the next couple of weeks. Mo has just recently moved to Australia and has not really started playing down there, but I am sure that he will get something started as soon as he gets totally settled. To keep on top of what Mo is up to check out his website at www.mophillips.com. Also originally hailing from the great northwest, in the rainy city of bridges and roses, Üai(pronounced way) thrives in the rock and roll tradition of testing the
boundaries of beauty and raw energy; and, with influences ranging from
The Flaming Lips to the Grateful Dead and John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu
Orchestra, Üai also celebrates the totem of rock and roll which is its continual evolution and re-creation through the influences of popular music of the present as well as the recent past. To find out more about Üai please visit their CD page on Music Sumo in the coming weeks. For now, here is their song, “King’s & Queens.” Üai – Kings & Queens
So far we have received a pretty diverse group of CD submissions here at Music Sumo. We have received many submissions from all around the United States, and we have received some great representations of many different genres of music. We did start out pretty strong sided with rock and folk music, but we have also recently received our first Hip-Hop/Rap artist, Levi Stress from South Carolina. Levi recently submitted his album “Back 2 Tha Essence ‘Your Quintessential Hip Hop Tour Guide,’” which, is an original Hip Hop, Boom Bap-era, Mid 90’s, Pete Rock, DJ Primier type production. With this album you get Hip Hop like when you were younger, when you would run to the store to pick up the latest Souls Of Mischief, Del, Gang Starr, early Nas, etc. If you are a head that just wants to hear dope rhymes and ill beats this is the one for you! Pick it up soon at www.musicsumo.com. Here is the title track off of that album… This is Levi Stress with “Back 2 Tha Essence.” Levi Stress – Back 2 Tha Essence
Well, so far we have received a very good amount of CD submissions from artists all over the country, but we are always looking for new, fresh artists. If you are an independent artist and need a retail outlet to reach more fans than you are reaching now while also being featured on our Podcast please visit Music Sumo’s website at www.musicsumo.com.
So far we have about 2,000 subscribers to the Music Sumo Podcast, which has really amazed us since our subscriptions rate has grown so rapidly. From myself, John Brown, at Music Sumo I would like to thank you all very much for listening. I would also like to let all of you know that the building of the webstore is going very well. We are almost done with all of the backend work and are really just working on cosmetic stuff like the color and layout of the store. I have received a couple of e-mails asking if we are on schedule and I would like to let you all know that we are. So, please check back often at www.musicsumo.com. The store should be officially opening in the next couple of weeks and there will most certainly be a podcast to coincide with that.
Again, I would like to apologize for the long delay in the release of this podcast, but the move of our facilities proved longer than expected. To make up for it I will play a bunch of totally uninterrupted music from several of our artists that are now signed up with Music Sumo. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this compilation of Music Sumo artists and remember to check back on the Music Sumo website at www.musicsumo.com, and if you have any questions and/or suggestions for us please feel free to e-mail us at podcast@musicsumo.com.
This is “Downtown” Johnny Brown signing off for the Music Sumo Podcast #003. Thank you for listening…
