Hello, this is “Downtown” Johnny Brown and you are listening to the Music Sumo Podcast #005!

To all of you who don’t know by now, Music Sumo is an independent online music store dedicated to promoting and selling all independent artists’ music over the internet at www.musicsumo.com.

Music Sumo is aimed at assisting independent music artists, in further promoting their careers through distribution, marketing, and promotion on the internet. Artists are now able to sell their CD’s online, advertise upcoming shows and releases, and be featured on Music Sumo’s regular Podcast.

Some of the key features that we have incorporated into the Music Sumo webstore are:
• A website where your fans, and the general public, can come and buy your CD’s.
• A place for customers to leave reviews of your music.
• A concert calendar so you can let your fans know about your upcoming gigs.
• A bulletin board system that you can use to get questions answered about the music industry, as well as help others.
• A chat room where you can interact with your fans and other musicians in realtime.
• A way to further promote your band, music, and gigs through links and banners.
• And more!!!

Currently we are accepting CD submissions from all musical artists for the store and if you submit your CD now you will receive 20% off the sign-up fee by entering in “sumopromo” in the coupon redemption area at the bottom of the CD submission page! So sign-up now! To find out more about Music Sumo and to take advantage of the over 20% in savings visit Music Sumo today at www.musicsumo.com!!

As most of you already know the Music Sumo webstore opened on March 13th, and since then we have been growing like mad! We now have rock artists, folk artists, new age artists, and a rap artist, but we always need more! There are plenty of genres out there that are not represented on Music Sumo yet. So, bands, start submitting your CD’s today! If you are one of the first bands up in a certain genre that just means that more people will find your CD since they don’t have to search through the thousands that they would at other stores, this in turn means you have a greater chance of selling your CD’s. So, come check out Music Sumo today and take advantage of our great discount and take advantage of the hundreds of fans that are already flocking to Music Sumo every week in search of some good, new, independent music.

The last, and first “official” Music Sumo Podcast featured Boston, MA singer/songwriter Michelle Lewis. Thank you all for listening to the show and taking the time to check out Michelle’s CD on the Music Sumo website. We got quite a few people looking and listening to the clips on there. Unfortunately, none of you bought a copy! So, for a limited time Music Sumo is placing Michelle’s CD on sale! You can now get it for only $13! That is $5.95 off of the list price! Come check out Music Sumo today at www.musicsumo.com to check out her CD and buy a copy today!

This time around we have Farma as our featured artist. If you have been listening to the Music Sumo Podcast then you will know that Farma was featured already in Podcast #002 and in Podcast #003, but I promised them, like I promised Michelle, that I would play their stuff again when the store officially opened. So, here they are again… Unfortunately, I was going to do an interview with them this past Sunday, but I came down with the flu. Sorry, fellas!

Anyway, Farma is on somewhat of a hiatus right now as they figure out their strategy for the next couple of years. I am hoping that they start playing again a lot real soon though as they kick ass, and the San Francisco Bay Area is needing some kickass bands these days… Farma has been in and out of recording studios and rehearsal studios refining their sound and preparing for their first full album release. I can’t wait! Until that happens though you really need to check out their EP on the Music Sumo webstore at www.musicsumo.com, or you can check out their official website at www.farmamusic.com.

Speaking of their EP, let’s get the tunes flowing with a couple tracks off of it. This is Farma with Mao/Marilyn and Jody Said:

Farma – Mao/Marilyn

Farma – Jody Said

Alright! These guys kick ass don’t they? Not just some fools in a garage pounding away, that’s for sure!

So, while listening to those tracks I came up with a great idea… Well, at least I hope that it is a great idea! Like I have said, Farma has been fine tuning themselves in preparation for a full length CD release and a tour to follow hopefully. Anyway, I happen to have several copies of their demos lying around here since their bassist, Dominic, just happens to be one of my roommates. So, how about this… I will play the same song three times. Now it won’t totally be the same though since I will play three different recordings of the song from different times. Now, what I would like to have happen is I would like for all of you listeners out there to listen to all three versions of the song and then e-mail me at podcast@musicsumo.com and let me know what version you like the best and why. I will then relay these e-mails to the band and they can then take that information into account when finalizing the CD so that it turns out the best for you – the listener! Doesn’t that sound great?! You, as a listener, will have some actual control on what the artist puts out instead of just taking what they think you might like! It’s total audience participation. That is what this Music Sumo thing is all about – a community of participating musicians and fans coming together to discuss music and further bring it to the masses. So get involved! Listen to all three versions of the song, let me know what you like at podcast@musicsumo.com and then when Farma finalizes their CD you can come and buy it at Music Sumo and enjoy the disc you had a part in creating!

Just an idea, but I would like to see it work. So, remember to e-mail me at podcast@musicsumo.com and let me know what version you like best. Ok?! Ok.

So, the song that I am going to play is “Plastic Moon,” by Farma… Here is version number one:

Farma – Plastic Moon

Ok. Here is version number two. This version just a little tiny bit different so listen closely…

Farma – Plastic Moon

And, here is the last version. This version has a lot more going on in it, so it has quite a different feel to it…

Farma – Plastic Moon

So, which version did you like the best? Please take you time… Maybe even listen to them all again. But once you have made up your mind please e-mail me at podcast@musicsumo.com to let me know which version the band should use on the up coming album!

Well, now that you have endured the same song over and over and over again, I would like to play you a long song to close up the show. First though we really need to give a shout out to some people who have really helped Music Sumo in the past few weeks:

We would really like to thank Avner Netz and the small crew at NetzBiz in assisting in the creation and launch of the actual webstore. Without them the dream of starting this online music community would not be possible. If you ever want to start your own webstore I urge you to check out Avner’s site at www.netzbiz.com, or you can just link to them through one of their banners on Music Sumo at www.musicsumo.com

We would really like to thank Potion Factory. Potion Factory has assisted us in our podcasts immensely. Not only did they create the greatest podcasting software, Podcast Maker, but they also listed us in their Podcast Gallery and because of that we have had almost three hundred subscribers through their site – the most podcasts referrals from any one place other than Music Sumo yet! Thanks Potion Factory! If you are interested in creating your own podcast, check out their website at www.potionfactory.com, or you can link to them through the Music Sumo website at www.musicsumo.com. Just go there and there should be a link to them on the right side of the store.

We would also like to thank The Pod Lounge and the whole community there at www.thepodlounge.com.au. We have gotten a lot of listeners from there and I think that it is great that we are finally getting a following somewhere outside of just our own walls here at Music Sumo. Thanks you guys!

We would like to thank the Berklee College of Music Alumni Association for taking the time to place Music Sumo on your webpages and promote us to the Berklee Alumni. I would also like to thank all the Alumni who have taken the time to visit Music Sumo. Keep checking back often, and I hope that we can help you out in some way!

And, last, but not least, we would like to thank the band, Dialogue, from New Hampshire. Dialogue is just up and coming and don’t have a CD recorded yet, but they are currently working on a CD though and have already started advertising it on their website saying that it can be purchased soon on Music Sumo even though they haven’t submitted it yet! These guys know what’s up! They have already created a buzz and have gotten people coming to the Music Sumo webstore looking for their CD that isn’t even released yet. I cannot wait to really start working with you guys. I am sure that we can get your music out there since there is already a little following going!

Well I think that is it for the shouts out…

This is “Downtown” Johnny Brown saying thanks for listening yet again to another Music Sumo Podcast. Please remember to visit the store often, and remember to contribute to the community by sending in your CD’s, buying CD’s, leaving reviews of the artists’ music, posing events on the calendar for all of us to come to and enjoy, leave postings in the forums, and chat with some friends in the chat room. I hope to see you all on there soon at www.musicsumo.com.!

Until then, enjoy this last tune from Farma’s self-titled EP, which is now available at a discount at Music Sumo (www.musicsumo.com). This is Farma with "Midnight Rider (or Hallucinations Outside of Fontana)"… Oh, and remember to send in your thoughts on Farma’s three versions of “Plastic Moon” to podcast@musicsumo.com.

Take care…

Farma – Midnight Rider (or Hallucinations Outside of Fontana)
