Hello everybody! This is “Downtown” Johnny Brown comin’ at ya with Music Sumo Podcast #018!
To all of you that have been with us since the beginning, we thank you for staying with us and participating in the Music Sumo community! Without all of you submitting your music, listening to others’ music and leaving reviews, purchasing music, and participating in the chat room and forums, none of this could be possible. To all of you who have not been to Music Sumo yet and who don’t know by now, Music Sumo is an independent online music store dedicated to promoting and selling all independent artists’ music over the internet at www.musicsumo.com.
Music Sumo is aimed at assisting independent music artists, in further promoting their careers through distribution, marketing, and promotion on the internet. Artists are now able to sell their music online, advertise upcoming shows and releases, and be featured on Music Sumo’s regular podcast.
Some of the cool things that we incorporated into the Music Sumo webstore in 2006 are: • A website where your fans, and the general public, can come and buy your CD’s. • A place for customers to leave reviews of your music. • An event calendar so you can let your fans know about your upcoming gigs, CD releases, and more. • A bulletin board system that you can use to get questions answered about the music industry, as well as help others. • A chat room where you can interact with your fans and other musicians in realtime. • A way to further promote your band, music, and gigs through links and banners. • An extensive resource of artists and other service companies in our links area. • We now have a ton of awesome vinyl stickers that are for sale at the store. The stickers are black screen print on white vinyl. They are 4.25” x 2.75”. They are quality stickers that are suited for outdoor use and should last for at least 3 – 5 years with no fading! The stickers are $1 each, but if you buy a couple of CD’s we’ll throw a couple of stickers in for free! • We have linked to Digg.com to bring you all of the latest music news, as well as all of the other news from around the world. • We now have Music Sumo buttons and banners that you can incorporate into your website to link back to us. • And more!!!
Currently we are accepting CD submissions from all musical artists for the store and if you submit your CD now you will receive 20% off the sign-up fee by entering in “sumopromo” in the coupon redemption area at the bottom of the CD submission page! So sign-up now! To find out more about Music Sumo and to take advantage of the 20% in savings visit Music Sumo today at www.musicsumo.com!!
We have been on a little break from the podcast for a little while, but we have been super busy in the meantime. As I mentioned in Music Sumo Podcast #017, Music Sumo’s parent company, Recast Records, signed the Bluegrass band, The Trespassers , and in March booked one short, successful Northern California tour! The Trespassers are now pretty booked up through October. To find our where they are playing next, check out the Music Sumo Events Calendar, or visit The Trespassers website at www.thetrespassers.com.
The Trespassers were also able to play on KHUM radio in Humboldt County, CA, and you can check out that radio show if you subscribe to the Music Sumo Podcast either in Apple’s iTunes, or with some other podcast aggregator. In fact, there are many little added bonuses that you get if you actually subscribe to the Music Sumo Podcast. So, subscribe today to find out what you have been missing!
March was even busier as I was called out of the office to assist Christina Aguilera’s and My Chemical Romance’s Production crews as they passed through town. This was a blast as I got to unexpectedly meet up with an old friend who is now playing in Christina’s band. “Hey, Ray!”
Music Sumo has also recently partnered with some new companies to bring you great deals on new music products! Lookout for new specials, deals, contests, and more from all of our great new music affiliates on the Music Sumo website the future. Some of the great offers coming your way soon are:

Recently, Music Sumo has been talking to independent record labels to expand our catalog. Keep checking back for new artists and albums, and if you are an independent record label, please contact us at info@musicsumo.com for more information about how to submit your artists’ music for free throughout 2007!
Our first label submissions have started to come in and our first submissions were from Rora Records down in Paxton, FL. They are a great, little, independent record label that specializes in Rock, Blues, and Alternative music. Check out their stuff sometime at their website at www.rorarecords.com. Rora submitted three albums recently from three different artists – Graveyard Jackson, Ronno Jaxon, and SCOS. Seeing as Graveyard Jackson was the first artist to get pulled from the box as we opened it, we will start with him as our Featured Artist for Music Sumo Podcast #018!
Graveyard Jackson was born in Augusta, Georgia. He started playing guitar at age 13 and, being a native southerner, is a natural Blues & Country player. His teen years were spent on the music of Muddy Waters and Son House. He was also inspired by the slide work of Johnny Winter.
His next 25 years saw a lot of Rock & Roll music with bands and bars and excessive lifestyles. He wrote, played, and produced two indie Rock singles during the 70’s and 80s and toured coast to coast with major & regional bands relocating from Atlanta, GA to Hollywood, CA in 1990. His music was also used on the TV show Hillstreet Blues, which made him an affiliate songwriter with BMI. In 1991, it was back to the Blues with the release of Graveyard Jackson, a 12 song cassette on Devilbeat Records. This project was well received worldwide by Blues fans in the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Japan. His music was used in the B-movie, Chickboxer, in 1992, and he toured Southwest California before relocating to Florida in 1994.
Now, Rora Records is very pleased to present on Music Sumo the Graveyard Jackson CD, Never Change, which is a unique collection of 13 original Graveyard Jackson Blues songs & compositions from 1990 to 2006. This is the first collection CD from Rora Records to feature remixed and remastered Blues tunes from the great country bluesman, Graveyard Jackson’s rare recordings are indeed a great addition to anyone’s Blues collection. The instruments played by Graveyard Jackson in the recordings include: steel body dobro, acoustic guitars, 12-string guitars, electric guitars, blues harp, Fender bass, percussion, and drum machines. He wrote all of the music and all of the lyrics, and he also sang all the vocals. This album spans Graveyard Jackson’s sorted Blues paths from solo coffee-house pickin’ to rockin’ hard Blues bars. With his wit & humor, the sometimes-dark places that are private and only the lonely know, are his stories set to music.
So, let’s take a little trip with Graveyard Jackson from 1993 to now, with Rora Records’ release of, Never Change. We’ll travel along chronologically, just for fun to see the progression of his music throughout the past 14 years. To start it out we will do something simple with some acoustic slide Blues and vocals. This is Graveyard Jackson with “Half Shell Blues.”
Alright, that was Graveyard Jackson with “Half Shell Blues,” which was originally recorded in 1993 and released on his album, Diggin’ My Own Grave, but can now be found on his new collection album, Never Change, released through Rora Records and located now at the Music Sumo webstore at www.musicsumo.com. Next, we have another tune that was originally off of Diggin’ My Own Grave. This one was recorded in 1994. This is Graveyard Jackson with, “The Man Who Knew Too Much.”
Wonderful! I love the slide guitar, don’t you?! Well, Graveyard’s older stuff is really great, but let’s jump a full ten years to something a little bit more rockin’! This is Graveyard Jackson electric with “Graveyard Train Blues.”
Oh yeah! A little bit more rockin’ with “Graveyard Train Blues,” which was originally off of Graveyard Jacksons’ CD, Electric Graveyard. Well, to round out this wonderful musician’s palette, this is, what I believe, the most recent recording of Graveyard Jackson. This is him in 2006 with “Gypsy Songbird.” Graveyard Jackson – Gypsy Songbird
Ah, “Gypsy Songbird.” Wonderful! If you have liked what you have heard here please take the time to visit Music Sumo at www.musicsumo.com to hear more of Graveyard Jackson and to pick up his newest release, Never Change, which is released through Rora Records at www.rorarecords.com.
