Tracks: Live at the Starry Plough in Berkeley, CA 11-29-07
Hey, Rick and all listeners of the Music Sumo Podcast! This is “Downtown” Johnny Brown, and you are listening to Music Sumo Podcast #029! Music Sumo is an independent online music store dedicated to promoting and selling all independent artists’ music over the internet at www.musicsumo.com.
Music Sumo is aimed at assisting independent music artists, in further promoting their careers through distribution, marketing, and promotion on the internet. Artists are now able to sell their CD’s online, advertise upcoming shows and releases, and be featured on Music Sumo’s regular podcast.
Some of the key features that we have incorporated into the Music Sumo webstore are: • A website where your fans, and the general public, can come and buy your CD’s. • A place for customers to leave reviews of your music. • An event calendar so you can let your fans know about your upcoming gigs, CD releases, and more. • A bulletin board system that you can use to get questions answered about the music industry, as well as help others. • A chat room where you can interact with your fans and other musicians in realtime. • A way to further promote your band, music, and gigs through links and banners. • And more!!!
Well, it’s 2008 and Music Sumo is fresh back from our first musical event of the year, the BYO Punk Rock Bowling Tournament in Las Vegas, NV! This is the first year that the "Music Sumo Marauders" have participated in the Bowling Tournament and we didn’t do too bad, taking 116th place out of over 160 teams! We even got to meet some great new friends including The Dollyrots, and the Punk Rock Social!
Besides the bowling tournament, we have been super busy lately incorporating digital downloads into the Music Sumo website. We are almost done with the integration and we should be able to offer digital download purchases of your favorite artists’ music very soon! Right now, it is looking like The Trespassers will be the first artists to have their music available for download on the Music Sumo website, and we can’t wait! We will definitely keep you informed when the digital downloads section goes live! Stay tuned!!
If you are in a band, or know somebody who is, Music Sumo is looking for new artists to add to the website! The music will be sold online via CD and digital download, and will also be promoted on the Music Sumo homepage and on the Music Sumo Podcast! Submit your music today! Music Sumo is also looking for donations to make the website the best it can be! We are also hoping to add some new merchandise sometime, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and more. This episode of the Music Sumo Podcast we bring you a real treat with a live show from The Trespassers! As you may already know, The Trespassers are a string band from the Yosemite National Park area. Their original music is inspired both by the beauty of their wild surroundings and by the decline of natural places like it. They trespass social and political boundaries, as well as the boundaries of musical genres. They write and cover songs influenced by Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Gypsy-Jazz. They hope that as they share and spread their music, they bring smiles to faces, stomps into boots and sandals, wiggles into hips, and inspiration to human beings to live more joyfully and consciously. And, yes, they are still rocking a recycled veggie oil van as one of their vehicles in their fleet of touring rigs.
Well, The Trespassers were in Berkeley, CA on November 29th 2007 and I was able to catch up with them at the Starry Plough for this short set. Unfortunately, they were without their fiddle player, Sarah, but they were still able to rock the house as a threesome, and they were even able to talk some other musicians into join them, including a fiddle player and another guitarist!
So, sit back and enjoy Music Sumo’s little sound seeing tour of The Trespassers live at the Starry Plough on November 29th 2007.
